1A: School Vision, Mission, and Strategic Goals
The school's identity, in part, is derived from the vision, mission, values, beliefs and goals of the school, the processes used to establish these attributes, and the ways they are embodied in the life of the school.
- Hertford County High School is in the process of becoming a demonstration school for the United States. I am on the leadership team which is moving this vision and mission forward as we prepare for a change in our school.
1B: Leading Change
The school executive articulates a vision and implementation strategies for improvements and changes which result in improved achievement for all students.
- At Ahoskie Elementary School, I implemented and saw the process of Instructional Rounds take place.
- Hertford County High School is starting a Work-Based Learning program with the help of North Carolina New Schools project. I have been part of this project and working to help implement the changes.
1C: School Improvement Plan
The school improvement plan provides the structure for the vision, values, goals, and changes necessary for improved achievement for all students.
- Ahoskie Elementary School had to revise the School Improvement Plan. I helped collect data and revise the plan.
1D: Distributive Leadership
The school executive creates and utilizes processes to distribute leadership and decision making throughout the school.
- When the 2015-2016 school year started, Ahoskie Elementary School teachers did not have a common pacing guide. Teachers reviewed other district pacing guides, had a round table discussion about what they like/wanted in a pacing guide. Pacing guides were created by Elementary coach and myself. Once the pacing guides were created, teachers were given the copy to review and changes were made to meet the teachers needs. This document is still revisited frequently to ensure that the document are aligned to the needs of the students.
