3A: Focus on a Collaborative Work Environment
The school executive understands and acts on the understanding of the positive role that a collaborative environment can play in the school’s culture.
- At Ahoskie Elementary School's PLC's, (grade-level and content area), I worked to create a collaborative environment by holding data discussions, leading curriculum discussions, having teachers model lessons, and working on creating common pacing guides.
3B: School Culture and Identity
The school executive develops and uses shared vision, values and goals to define the identity of culture of the school.
- PLC's were a huge focus at Ahoskie Elementary School and we looked for ways to create this collaborative culture.
- At Hertford County High School, teachers took the Assessment of Culture and I analyzed the data.
3C: Acknowledges Failures; Celebrates Accomplishments and Rewards
The school executive acknowledges failures and celebrates accomplishments of the school in order to identify, culture, and performance of the school.
- Any meetings that I lead, I start with good news. It is a great way to get participates thinking about all the positives that are happening.
- Hertford County High School is working to incorporate PBIS. We are trying to use the PBIS model with the teachers to create a sense of accomplishment and rewards.
3D: Efficacy and Empowerment
The school executive develops a sense of efficacy and empowerment among staff which influences the school’s identity, culture and performance.
- This year Hertford County High School created a year long Math 1 class. The original schedules did not place students in the same teacher's class. The math teachers worked to manipulate the schedules to have ability grouped classes, tracked repeaters, and create a section of Math 1 for students who only needed it for a semester instead of the whole year.
