4A: Professional Development/Learning Communities
The school executive ensures that the school is a professional learning community.
- Ahoskie Elementary had PLC's twice a week. Once for grade level PLC and once for content PLC. I lead all Math PLC and all Grade Level PLC's.
- Hertford County High School has monthly PLC meetings. I attend these meetings for each of my departments.
- Monthly PD training is held for all the staff through North Carolina New Schools Project.
4B: Recruiting, Hiring, placing and mentoring staff
The school executive establishes processes and systems in order to ensure high-quality, high performing staff.
- At Ahoskie Elementary School, I created the mentor/mentee list.
- Participated in beginning teacher conferences at the school.
4C: Teacher and Staff Evaluation
The school executive evaluates teachers and other staff in a fair and equitable manner with the focus on improving performance and, thus student achievement.
- I developed a system to have teachers sign up for pre-conference, observation, and post-conference times for their first evaluation. Each conference lasted about an hour where we discussed grows and glows for each of the teachers.
